Blue Bombers Bring Back Kelly Malveaux

January 15, 2009

As per team policy, details of the agreement are not disclosed.

Malveaux (5-9, 193, Arizona ’97, DOB: May 11, 1976 in Bellflower, CA.) proved his dependability and versatility last season when he suited up for 17 regular season games and the East semi-final, while making starts in four different positions.

"I’m glad Kelly Malveaux is re-signed because he gives us some flexibility in coverage packages, using him both as a linebacker and a halfback. He can help us with disguising packages and doing some things that will disrupt the offence," explained Blue Bomber head coach Mike Kelly.

The 10 year CFL veteran out of the University of Arizona will be back for his fourth season with the Blue and Gold.

"Kelly brings a wealth of stability, leadership and versatility to the secondary. He has demonstrated the ability to effectively butalbital and aspirin halfback, safety, as well as the strong side linebacker position," said Ross Hodgkinson, the Blue Bombers Director of Football Operations.

"His work ethic both on the field and in film preparation set an excellent example to our younger players."

In 2008, arguably his finest season with the club, Malveaux ranked second on the team in both defensive tackles (65), and pass knockdowns (6), and was tied for second place on the club with two interceptions. He also added three tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble.

The Blue Bombers acquired Malveaux in an April 20, 2006 trade with the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft.

Since joining the Winnipeg Football Club, Malveaux played in 53 consecutive regular season games before sitting out the final contest of the 2008 regular season.
